Ask the Author

If something you've read raises a question—or if you're facing a business issue we haven't written about—I'd welcome hearing what's on your mind. No question is too basic, and you don't need to be an expert to ask.

I'm Richard Lodigiani, founder of YourBizValue. I draw on decades of work with privately held businesses and buyers. I review reader questions and may publish selected answers, with the reader’s permission, that can help other owners. I can't promise a personal reply to every submission.

Questions owners often ask

Start with these answers

These are general examples of issues discussed on the site, not submissions from actual readers.

Does a business with strong sales necessarily have high value?

No. Buyers generally focus on sustainable cash flow, margins, transferability, trends, and risk—not revenue alone.

Will a buyer discount my company because I run most of it?

Possibly. Buyers often worry about losing the relationships, decisions, or knowledge that leave with an owner. A capable team and documented processes can reduce that concern.

Is one large customer always a deal breaker?

Not always. Concentration increases risk, but buyers consider the relationship’s history, contract terms, industry dynamics, and the company’s ability to replace lost revenue.

Should I wait for another strong year before selling?

There is no universal answer. A stronger year can help, but waiting also carries market, health, industry, and personal opportunity costs.
